It was a honor to be apart of the Friends of FAM's 1st Annual Be Out Day Atlanta and serve as the Official Event T-Shirt Vendor. The event was TRULY a beautiful FAMULY AFFAIR!
I am Ciera Hall, a Spring 2012 graduate of our beloved Florida A&M University. I served as the 2011-2012 Queen of Orange and Green, marched with the Incomparable Marching "100" in Flag Corp, Spring 11' initiate of the Real Beta Alpha chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., but of all things that I did on campus, I am most known for creating Famuly Affair.
As many of you know I started Famuly Affair in 2010 while attending FAMU. I am the woman I am today because of this very creation. It has brought me so much joy and happiness but at one point in time it brought me a lot of pain and heartbreak that I pray none of you have to endure! When I graduated it was bitter sweet for me. I was happy that I was done with school but I was scared because I knew it also meant that I wouldn't be able to keep FAMUly Affair alive! I struggled with this for 5 years! Trying my best from afar but it wasn't good enough and I was trumped! My favorite quote of all time is "The goal is not to live forever, but to create something that will" and that's why I can't leave it alone! Every time I tried to let it go and move on with life, God stirred me right back to it. I was so confused, I was a mess!!!! Until one night I prayed for guidance, strength, direction and PATIENCE!!! I finally allowed myself to submit to the word of God instead of trying to do it on my own. (You have to BE STILL in order to hear him!) When he spoke to me, I LISTENED!
Be Out Day Atlanta was the day I officially relaunched FAMUly Affair and our new initiative G.R.O.W. The love and support I've received after the relaunch has been so OVERWHELMING! Thank you! Thank You! Thank You! I do it for YOU ALL!!!! #MyFAMULY!!!!!!
With our new initiative G.R.O.W. "Giving Rattlers Opportunities Worldwide" mentorship program. I want to use my platform to touch as many Rattlers as I can but as i've recently learned, I can't do it alone! During Be Out Day, several Alums "Sowed a Seed to help a Rattler in need".
As seen in the photo above, their donation is displayed in the form of a leaf print on our FAMULY TREE! Once the tree is full it will be donated to the Black Archives as a symbol of our continuous dedication to FAMU! Rattlers from afar can donate via our PayPal link and we also have a P.O. Box where you can send small personal artifacts (such as a piece of an old shirt you may have worn while on the hill or a mini flag for Rattlers abroad) to be added to the tree to represent your contribution. The next opportunity to donate in person and get your thumb print on the Tree will be during this years Homecoming festivities. (Locations TBA)
This is your chance to reach back and help mentor the next generation of Rattlers! Thank you to each and every person that's supported me through the years!
